Hasan: Whoever desires that Allah answers him during difficult times..

Classification: Hasan (authentic)

(Refer to Sahih Tirmidhi; 3382)

The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whosoever desires that Allah answers him during times of difficulty and hardship, then let him supplicate a lot during times of ease."

  1. Assalaam Alaikum brother/sister,

I have a question. Doesn't Hasan translate as good (not necessarily authentic), where as, Sahih refers to that which is authentic? I have always understood both terms in the way mentioned, and would really appreciate if you could clarify any misunderstanding.

JazakAllah khair, and may Allah reward you for all your work for in His service. =)

  2. Wa Alaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullah sister Sara,

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Hasan would translate as "good" and Sahih would translate as "true". But both Hasan and Sahih are considered acceptable and fall under the category of authentic ahadith, and both are attributed to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him. The difference between them is that Sahih is considered to have a higher level of authenticity than Hasan, but both are considered authentic and true and are acceptable and should be used, and there is no difference between them in terms of following them and in practice both are used as valid evidence. On the other hand, there is the other category of ahadith which are not authentic, and this category includes Weak and Fabricated ahadith which are not authentically attributed to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him and they should not be used nor attributed to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him.

I just personally write (authentic) between parenthesis so that if a brother or sister do not know much about the terminology of hadith and what "Hasan" actually means, then for all practical purposes it is enough for them to know that this hadith is true and can be authentically attributed to the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him.

I hope this clarified things up insha'Allah!

  3. JazakAllah khair for your prompt response! That certainly did clear things up, and I'm glad that I have now a better understanding of the two terms.
